Spring Preview 2009
Now an official February tradition, we made the pilgrimage to Longwood Gardens this weekend. It was as glorious as ever. Seeing and smelling so many lush, beautiful flowers and feeling the warm scented air envelop you really does make you believe it's spring, even if only for a few hours. It's pure heaven.

Purple was Lily's favorite color flower, and there were oh-so-many to be had.

The girl has now learned to appreciate flowers by smelling them, and she took great pleasure in practicing her newly acquired skill with a dramatic inhale and exhale with as many flowers as she could find.

Lily also enjoyed some quality time with Grandma, or Gi-gi, as she has now learned to say.

The children's fountains were a big hit again this year. So happy was she to splash the afternoon away, Lily refused to leave the play area and when finally made to do so, insisted on breaking away from the group to repeatedly scurry back to the fountains. It took 3 adults and much distraction to finally convince her to move on to another area of the gardens.

The place was dripping with orchids of every imaginable variety and color.

Lily missed her nap, and it began to show by late afternoon.

You know, in that picture of me I'm looking at a nameplate of one of the orchids and puzzling out the meaning of it. I know enough Latin that "superbum" should have been obvious. But I'm staring at it there and thinking, "why the hell did they name this one 'super bum?' " That's what parenthoood does to your mind.
Great photos! We enjoy Longwood Gardens too. I've always wanted to get there for Christmas but it never has worked out. I like the fall chrysanthemums =)
Lily is getting so big! We need our next playdate *hugs*
