Fair Season
September is fair season in Lancaster County. Still heavily agricultural in many parts of the county, most small towns have kept alive the tradition of the local fair replete with Fair Queens, livestock exhibits, ribbons for the best homemade pies, carnival rides, and artery-clogging fair food (deep fried oreos, anyone?). We took in the Ephrata fair last year, but Lily was too small to appreciate anything other than the dazzling lights on the carnival rides and Daddy's soft serve ice cream. This year was a whole new experience for the girl as we took in the sights and sounds of the Denver Fair. It was a quaint, cozy fair, and Lily had a marvelous time exploring the grassy, hilly terrain, getting acquainted with the local livestock, riding the rides, and eating ice cream.

Our little Fair Queen, hanging out with the goats.

Lily was simultaneously fascinated and terrified by all the animals. She really wanted to get close to them, but as soon as she got too close, she would lose her cool and retreat to the safety of Mommy's or Daddy's arms.

Daddy makes an a$$, er, I mean cow, out of himself for Lily's amusement. But Lily was decidedly NOT amused. Lily was terrified.

After excitedly watching a bunch of older kids whiz down the giant slide, we decided to let Lily try it out. The girl's definitely got a bit of thrill seeker in her. She LOVED it!

Mmmmm. Chocolate ice cream on a fresh, hot waffle.

Mom and Lily relaxing under the trees.

At one point, Lily decided there would be nothing more fun than to roll around and around and around on the ground. This was followed by a lengthy rest period lying face down on the ground, thumb plugged securely in her mouth. Silly girl.

Hey, thanks for the update! I so enjoyed these pictures. And I miss crossing paths more often.
Golly, almost 2 years old! Time flies. My son is barely over a foot shorter than I, at 8, and he's starting another spurt. Also, I've started to mix up his white utility socks and mine, unless I'm paying strict attention (to which, believe you me, I've never wanted to fork over that much precision in heeding).
Sigh. So it goes, and all too fast.
(I hope you are all well ... .
Your posts always make me smile! Lily is as adorable as always.
