Five Months
Our sweet Lily turns five months old today (and on Mothers’ Day, too!). She has experienced so many milestones this month! She’s now rolling over from front to back and from back to front. And when she lands on her tummy she excitedly paddles her arms and kicks her legs – it seems only a matter of time until she’s crawling. Sometimes, though, her enthusiasm for rolling interferes with her falling asleep at night. Eager to practice her new trick, she’s begun rolling in her crib and more often than not she rolls right up against the side bumpers and then can’t figure out how to maneuver out of the cramped position in which she suddenly finds herself. Frantic crying ensues until Mom or Dad come to her rescue. Lily’s also begun eating solid food. So far it’s oatmeal and bananas. She’s fond enough of the cereal, but oh my, does that girl love her bananas! Not the strangely yellow-orange kind that come in a jar, though. No, she has a very clear preference for fresh, ripe bananas mashed up with a little of mom’s milk. She positively beams, grinning ear to ear with each mouthful. She is also intensely interested in watching us eat, hypnotically following the fork from plate to mouth with eyes wide and mouth open. Not only that, she also has a thing for Mom’s blue and white patterned tea mug. She recognizes it instantly as we sit together each morning and reaches for it, pulling it to her mouth to imitate Mom drinking. Time to get the girl her own sippy cup! One milestone we’d rather not have reached just yet – Lily caught her first cold. She whined and coughed and sniffled and ran a fever of 101. But thankfully for all involved, her discomfort only lasted two short days (the doctor said to expect 5-7) and then she was back to her usual perky, happy self. Now that the weather has turned balmy, Lily loves to go barefoot and uses her feet to explore everything from toys to grass to people. She has the most gorgeous long toes (thanks to her daddy) that, because they move independently, she uses to grasp and hold all sorts of things. She’s quite a little monkey!
